During an appearance on NPR last weekend, Kim Kardashian responded to rumors that she would name her second child South West.
She said this would be the "stupidest thing ever."
But fans of the quiz show Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! are now complaining about something they find even stupider:
Kim Kardashian appearing on NPR in the first place.
"I recently gave a small gift to my local NPR station," read one letter from a listener in Vermont.
"Had I heard your Saturday show before I made my gift, I wouldn't have donated. The Kardashians represent much of what is wrong with America today - and I listen to NPR to get AWAY from Kardashian-like garbage."
The complaints grew so loud, in fact, that NPR published an article on its website by ombudsman Elizabeth Jensen.
She labeled Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me! as an “equal opportunity offender” and tried to explain the impetus behind the Kim Kardashian sex tape star making a cameo.
"Many listeners seem willing to laugh until the comedy is turned on something that touches their own lives or sensitivities,” Jensen wrote.
“I'm still not sure what to make of this week's outrage over Kardashian, who was indeed a surprising guest, given how often the show has pilloried her and her clan in the past.
"She wasn't a great guest - she had a couple funny lines - but she was gracious."
Where do you stand? Do you think NPR was wrong to interview Kim Kardashian?
Do you just want to watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians online and scoff at this family from the privacy of your own home? Not have them invade public radio?
