If you're reading The Hollywood Gossip, you've likely heard of Kim Kardashian.
But what about Monica Lin Brown?
An Army medic, Brown became only the second woman since World War II to receive a Silver Medal after she used her body as a shield to save the lives of fellow soldiers in Afghanistan.
To elicit recognition and respect for Brown, Stephen Savage has used a side-by-side image of this American hero and the Kim Kardashian sex tape star to pose a simple question:
Why is one so much more famous than the other?
"A fact: the women on the left… I know they are Kardashians (I don’t live under a rock, after all), and I know they do something," Savage wrote as a message to accompany the above photo, adding
"But I’m not sure which of them is which, nor what it is they actually do. But I do know who the young woman on the right is, Army Spc. Monica Lin Brown."
Savage then went on to detail how Brown “ran through insurgent gunfire” to rescue five wounded warriors, concluding:
"Now, technically, US female soldiers aren’t supposed to participate in combat, but someone forgot to tell that to the Specialist.
"I think I’m OK with not knowing the other ladies."
Sort of makes you think about what we value as a society, doesn't it? It should.
