Kim Kardashian and Kanye West celebrated daughter North West's first birthday last week by piercing her ears - a decision that's drawn a good deal of criticism on Twitter.
"Far too young! Let her decide for herself when she's older," wrote one user. "Should be banned. Unnecessary and cruel. Purely for vanity of parents."
"Kim Kardashian has pierced her one year old's ears?!" tweeted another of Kim's followers. "That's cruel AND tacky!"
While the practice of piercing young girls' ears has been debated in the past, with some demanding a ban, it continues to be customary in many world cultures.
In fact, many celebrities such as Alec and Hilaria Baldwin have recently pierced their young children's ears without taking any flak.
Some users even took issue with the fact that little Nori appears to be rocking diamonds in her ears.
"It's not the fact that North has her ears pierced," stated one user. "It's the fact that the earrings she's waiting probably cost more than my life."
It's no real surprise, of course, that North is sporting some expensive studs.
According to some reports, Kim and Kanye's wedding cost $9 million. Did anyone really think their daughter would get stuck with cubic zirconia?
