Kim Kardashian is finally doing something positive with her fame.
Yes, the reality star is still setting a horrific example by waist training. And her family is still exploiting the Bruce Jenner sex change for ratings.
But Kardashian is also producing an HLN documentary titled "#RedFlag" that focuses on mental illness among young adults and the power of social media to help with them.
“I was interested in bringing awareness to the issue when I recently had a friend that was going through the similar situation,” Kardashian said yesterday via a Facebook chat.
Kardashian, a social media master, says Instagram and Twitter can both help and hurt in this fight.
“I think it can help family and friends monitor [people who are suffering] and it can be therapeutic to freely write about your feelings. Sometimes people reveal warning signs on social media. You can see when a friend is in need."
Kim doesn’t believe there are “enough people talking about mental illness” out there and she wants people to know “it’s okay” to do so.
"It’s something that I feel is a little bit taboo," Kardashian concluded. "I also think it’s hard for people to admit they have a mental illness and I want them to know it’s okay. And there is help available."
Isn't it nice to see Kim Kardashian using her celebrity for good instead of self-serving evil for a change?
