It made Ray J a household name. It lined his pocket with millions of dollars. It gave him bragging rights for all of eternity over Kanye West.
So... how does this reality star feel about the Kim Kardashian sex tape these days?
Not as great as you might imagine.
"I personally don't think that's a road anybody should go down," Ray J tells The Huffington Post of filming oneself plowing one's girlfriend, emphasizing that he has no regrets, but...
"I don't applaud myself for anything in that world. I've grown from it and I've learned from it. But, at the same time, I don't applaud myself for it."
It's true that Ray J has come (hehe, Ray J has come...) a long way since the days of banging Kim Kardashian and then bragging about hitting it first.
For example, you'd think he'd take full credit for Kim's ridiculous fame, considering no one had really heard of her prior to Kim Kardashian Superstar hitting the market.
But Ray J gives credit for his ex-girlfriend's popularity to a power even higher than himself. Or Kris Jenner.
"God did that. I just leave it alone," he said. "God made all the success happen. When people say, 'You put this person on,' listen: God did that."
They do say the Lord does mysterious things, don't they?
The artist, meanwhile, has a new gig for himself, one that does involve being filmed once again. But this time Ray J's clothes are fully on.
